Research Data Management

Do you need information about managing your research data? The Library, the Director of eResearch, and the eScholarship Research Centre have been working with a number of researchers to develop a better understanding of what our researchers need to manage their research data and records so that appropriate resources and services can be developed.

Good documentation is a critical component of best practice research activity. There are obligations that need to be met to ensure the integrity of the research process. Researchers need to be familiar with The University of Melbourne Policy on the Management of Research Data and Records and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research The Research Office provides information and advice about these obligations. Regular training about these policies is also available. More information is available on their website: http://www.research.unimelb.edu.au/admin/res.conduct/code.html

Data Management Plans are emerging as a best practice process of the early stages of the research process. Good planning can alleviate many of the pitfalls of lost or incomplete datasets and records.

Find out more about developing a research data management plan for your project. Training about the use of research data management plans can be arranged on request. Please contact Anna Shadbolt for more information annams@unimelb.edu.au or on 43139.
